New UAE Initiative: Health Insurance Now Included with Tourist Visa Applications
The UAE is set to introduce a new project that will allow tourists to obtain health insurance as part of their visa application process. Announced on Monday by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), this ‘health insurance for tourist visas’ initiative is part of the authority’s ‘transformative projects’.
According to Major-General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, director-general of the ICP, the project will enable tourists to secure health insurance when they apply for their visas online via the ICP website or app. This initiative aims to provide health coverage in emergency situations by automating the process of obtaining insurance through an electronic platform. This platform will handle the pricing and issuance of insurance packages from major UAE insurance companies.
A Beneficial Move:
Ramzi Ghurani, Managing Partner at Petra Insurance Brokers, has praised the project, highlighting its benefits for both the local healthcare system and visitors. “Ensuring that all travelers have insurance coverage means they will be protected in case of an unexpected medical emergency,” Ghurani stated. “This also guarantees that the government and private hospitals won’t have to bear the cost of emergency care for visitors.”
Ghurani emphasized the importance of visitors understanding their insurance coverage. “Many travelers are unaware of the need for health insurance while traveling and often overlook it. This initiative is particularly beneficial for those individuals. However, travelers who seek comprehensive medical coverage might need to supplement with their private insurance to ensure full protection during emergencies.”
Enhanced Tourist Experience:
Industry experts also support the initiative, noting that it will enhance the overall experience for tourists and solidify the UAE’s reputation as a premier vacation destination.
“This is a forward-thinking initiative that integrates health insurance with the tourist visa application process,” said Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of Thumbay Healthcare. “Having health insurance is crucial for travelers to protect against unforeseen medical expenses, especially during emergencies. This service allows travelers to enjoy their stay, knowing that their health and safety are prioritized from the moment they apply for their visa. They will have quick access to high-quality medical care if needed.”
Thumbay also highlighted that this initiative will offer tourists more competitive insurance pricing. “The automated health insurance process will enable visitors to choose from various insurance providers offering competitive coverage options. This ensures that the diverse needs of travelers are met.”
“In conclusion, this initiative will enhance the overall tourist experience and reinforce the UAE’s position as a top vacation destination that prioritizes safety and well-being,” he added.
